Google Ruled an Illegal Monopoly by Federal Court

Landmark Decision Strikes at Power of Tech Giants

Government Secures Major Victory in Antitrust Lawsuit

In a landmark decision that could have far-reaching implications for the tech industry, a federal judge ruled on Monday that Google acted illegally to maintain a monopoly in online search. The ruling represents a major victory for the Justice Department, which has been pursuing a series of antitrust lawsuits against the internet giant.

The federal court ruled that Google's dominance in the search market constituted a monopoly and that the company had illegally used agreements to exclude its competitors. The ruling noted that Google enjoys an 89.2% share of the market for general search, and that this dominance was evidence of its monopoly power.

"Google is a monopolist and it has acted as one to maintain its monopoly," Judge Amit Mehta wrote in his 277-page opinion. "Google's conduct has harmed competition and consumers, and it has stifled innovation in the search market."

Google has stated that it plans to appeal the ruling. However, the decision represents a significant setback for the company, which has been facing increasing scrutiny over its market dominance.
