New Zealand | Visa applicants encouraged to apply early
Skilled Migrant Category visas open on 9 May 2023
Immigration New Zealand (INZ) is encouraging people looking to apply for a Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) visa to apply now. The SMC visa is a points-based system that allows skilled workers to live and work in New Zealand.
What to expect
- Quota announced for SMC visa
- Changes to eligibility requirements for SMC visa
- New system for managing SMC visa applications
The SMC visa quota for 2023/24 is 14,400 places. This is the same as the quota for the 2022/23 year. The SMC visa eligibility requirements have also changed. To be eligible, applicants must now have a job offer from a New Zealand employer that meets certain criteria. Applicants must also have a minimum of 160 points under the SMC points system.
INZ has also introduced a new system for managing SMC visa applications. The new system is designed to be more efficient and transparent. Applicants will be able to track the progress of their application online.
INZ is urging people to apply for an SMC visa as soon as possible. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
